Self Advice if full of Responsibility and Pride

When my brothers and I were very young, there was an attitude that our father used all his wisdom and discipline to make us avoid. He hated this statement ” I did not want to do this, my friend asked me to do it.” This argument should be banned from our language because it reveals a lack of responsibility and self-confidence.

Indeed, when we only act on the thoughts of others, we become dependent on all our actions. Until a friend or relative has given their opinion regarding an action we need to take, we are incapable of expressing ourselves or making a decision. This is mostly referred to as influenceable people. Many people have destroyed their marriages, and become unworthy parents because of their friends. It may be important to take advice occasionally, but it would always be up to us to make the final decision to avoid regrets. “Just because we’re your parents doesn’t mean we have the whole truth. As an adult, we must know how to take the advice that identifies our personality and adhere to our values,” said my father.

Self-advice comes from our good and less good experiences. We just need to be good observers. How did you feel when you acted independently from the influences of others? You feel responsible and proud when you achieve a good result. Feel proud when the result is not what you expected because you will not blame anyone who could have misled you. It will be rather an experience that will teach and forge your personality.

AFRICA SUFFERS FROM INDIGESTION

Today, African societies conflict with their identities. They lost their self-esteem because they allowed the West to convince them that they had imperfect and inferior civilizations. They value their culture increasingly less and they seem not to know and appreciate their capacities and abilities.

The dictionary tells us that indigestion is a general term for pain and discomfort due to ingesting inappropriate foods. The irritation of the stomach then causes pain and burning sensations.

This is what Africa is suffering from. Through their leaders, African peoples have allowed themselves to be overwhelmed by other civilizations. The education system and commerce are imposed on them. Young Africans imitate Westerners without knowing they are envied by the people they imitate. Subtly, these Westerners with veiled interests impose their artificial agriculture (GMO) as well as their way of life.

Fortunately, it is indigestion, and it usually only lasts a short time. However, this could become permanent if Africa continues to underestimate itself, sell out its values, and ignore its potential and the crucial position it occupies in the world.

Today, African youth have become aware of this and have found the remedy for this indigestion. “ Le Soleil des Independances” meaning The Sun of Independences, to which Ahmadou Kourouma, an eminent Ivorian writer, alluded, is now present. However, some wicked and selfish children of Africa continue to help the destabilizers vilify the Africa of proud warriors.

Sons and daughters of Africa wake up and untie the knots. Writers should continue to write to denounce and raise awareness, Young politicians should continue to inform and reveal to your people the mic-macs that Westerners continue to do to enslave your people but also each African should take responsibility to meet the daily challenge in his environment.

To be African is to be a source of knowledge and wealth. Let’s not lose this privilege.

Four powerful subjects they don’t teach in school

Only a few people can access this knowledge

Public Speaking- Meditation- Finance Management- Nutrition

Public speaking

Here is the definition made by the school of Oratory Art: “Oratory art is an art, in the sense that it offers an aesthetic dimension of speech; but also, because it requires learning a method and therefore a technique. Public speaking is not innate, it is learned.”

It is well noted above that it is an art that can be learned, it is not innate. Cicero could therefore say: “One is born a poet; one becomes an orator”.

Why isn’t this art taught in all schools instead?

Oratory Art

 Gives us the ability to easily move, persuade, and captivate our audience

 Allows us to build relationships, influence decisions, and motivate change.

 Gives us self-confidence

 Helps us present ourselves as thought leader

 Gives us an advantage

Imagine for a moment that everyone practices this oratory art, who would be fooled all the time?

So, the leaders of society work to occupy the majority of basic needs. the system is therefore designed in such a way that few people are willing to acquire the knowledge required for a balanced and better life

Wake up! Today you have everything on the internet, and you can train yourself, but again the system is there with content to entertain you.

Be careful and activate your mind.

Meditation

Meditation is a powerful weapon and here is what it can do when practiced

 Promotes mental well-being

 Stimulates the brain

 Gain a new perspective on stressful situations.

 Develop skills to manage your stress.

 Increase self-awareness.

 Focus on the present.

 Reduce negative emotions.

 Increase imagination and creativity.

 Increase patience and tolerance.

These benefits are good for our bodies and our minds. This increases our useful abilities daily and we are more efficient at completing certain tasks more quickly.

Imagine we are all practicing meditation…

Financial Management

Having a good knowledge of personal finance is essential to enable you to optimize the management of your finances. You will thus be able to ensure that you cover your expenses and that you have the resources to allow you to invest and have fun.

To properly manage your finances, you will need to pay attention to the following points:

• Your budget for each month.

• The amount of all income received.

• All mandatory expenses that are your responsibility each month.

• The amount of your savings.

• And any other important information regarding your finances!

It is advisable to manage your finances regularly.

Nutrition

Nutrition is the foundation of good health. Nutrition helps create the body’s energy production. Its objective is that the individual succeeds in nourishing his body, his heart, and his mind as best as possible. Thus, it provides both physical and psycho-emotional balance which helps to stay in good health.

Numerous studies have proven that a balanced diet can improve many disorders. We can in particular cite weight loss or gain, digestive disorders, and sleep disorders. Nutrition helps prevent certain disorders sometimes linked to poor diet: cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers, etc.

In conclusion, imagine for a moment that from primary school to secondary school you are taught the fundamentals of public speaking, meditation, financial management, and how to eat well to be in good health. Guess the standard of living of the population. These courses are not taught to keep the minority rich and the majority poor.

You know it now! Train yourself, be self-dictating.

Cicéron pourrait donc dire : « On naît poète, on devient orateur ».

Who is developed and who is not?

“Development does not have a finish line that indicates whether a country is developed or not, because development means improvement. Whenever there is a positive change or an action to enhance or improve a condition or a situation, there is development. Therefore, the expressions developed, and under-developed countries have no meaning”

We have been hearing this expression “developed countries and underdeveloped or developing countries.” Who set the bar for development? Who determined the development criteria? Development cannot be limited to industrialization. In some developed countries, a woman who has the same qualifications as a man earns less than him. Is this part of development? However, in underdeveloped countries, women and men with the same qualifications have the same salary and this contributes to improving the standard of living of people. Is this not development? Each country has its resources and stands out in a specific sector. Therefore, all countries deserve respect because any country can claim to be developed. But there is also a sector of a country’s development that depends on the actions of other countries. For this reason, all countries are equal. The exploitation of the said underdeveloped countries by the said developed countries should simply stop and give way to sincere and equitable cooperation.

Caught Between Two Cultures

We learned that culture is the way of life of a group of people. It encompasses social behavior and the norms of human societies, as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, abilities, and habits of individuals in the group.

Each one of us is initially born into a certain family that belongs to a specific community, city, country, or continent. Our culture is those of our ancestors to whom we are related. Moving to another area does not change our origin. Even if we were born in another land, this fact cannot change our source, where our parents or grandparents come from.

Caught between two cultures refers to some people who deny their origin and claim to belong entirely to their host community, and country. However, deep inside their heart, they know where they come from and who they are.

This story calls for a deep reflection. Read till to end and ask yourself the right question and answer it honestly:  Are you among those who denied their origin and claim to be a different person? The day of the truth always comes sooner or later.

WHEN MOCTAR TALKS TO HIS TEACHER’S CONSCIOUS

Moctar is originally from Central Africa; he lost his parents during a civil war in his country. At 17 years old, Moctar could reach America as a refugee through a perilous journey. He came through a non-profit organization devoted to helping refugees integrate into their new homeland. I was thrilled and proud to be his case manager because he was an intelligent young boy, and I could see in him a brilliant future. Moctar (French native) had a chance to be enrolled in school, but in 10 grades because of the language barrier.

Moctar’s teacher used to create a space for discussion on any subject, theme, or situation. That platform allowed students to express themselves and say their opinion. One day, the discussion subject was identity and origin. Students should reveal Their origins and could talk about their culture. Moctar revealed that he was coming from Central Africa and belonged to the Peul tribe. After all, the students revealed where they came from originally, Moctar requested to ask a question. The teacher allowed him to ask his question, but Moctar’s question was unexpected and gave a thoughtful reflection to the discussion. It was a dialogue between Moctar and his teacher.

-Ms. Smith, where do you come from”? Moctar asked.

Ms. Smith’s answer was prompt.

-Me? I am an American.

For Moctar, his teacher’s response was not right. He replied by remembering and explaining the topic objective.

  • Ms. Smith, numbers of people are American by naturalization, and we also know that the native Americans are Indians. As we can see, you are not a native American so, where are you originally from? For example, I told you that I am coming from Africa, precisely from Central Africa, and in my country, I belong to the Pheul tribe. If you are not a native American, then you come definitively from somewhere. So, where are you from”?

The class was in silent mode. Ms. Smith was visibly embarrassed. She paused with a deep breath and said “Moctar you are right, where do I come from? This calls for reflection.

Indeed, this calls for deep self-reflection. There are many people like Mrs. Smith who moved to another country, continent, or even just to a neighboring village or city and “forgot” where they come from. Did they forget where they come from? I do not think so. We may move anywhere in the world for a better life because it is part of our destiny, but it does not mean that we should deny or ignore where we come from.

Ms. Smith realized that we cannot hide indefinitely who we are, and this is a serious mistake that we need to address not only for our dignity but also to make our descendants know their roots, where they can always go back when necessary.

Stop Calling Others, People of Color

Stop calling others, people of color

Have you ever had an experience where your name was misspelled or called by another name? What was your reaction? Usually, our response is prompt, an immediate reaction of correction, that is the right thing to do. We all need to be identified clearly by what we are. Either by our name, race, or by our origin.

I was looking for organizations that assist small businesses, and I was oriented to see Ms. X (I would not mention her name here), a white lady. When I met her, we discussed my project, and she was impressed, but she said this: “There are a lot of organizations of people of color that can help you.” It was the first time I heard this expression. I asked her: who are people of color? She could not answer.  I noticed that she was surprised and embarrassed, so she contented herself by telling me that she would try to get in touch with some of the organizations and let me know. I made my research and found out later who was the people of color.

My concern is, how can people categorize a group of people from different races and cultures and give them a name that does not identify them? This talk is an opportunity to explain why people should stop calling others, people of color to avoid another crisis of identity and allow people under this appellation to feel entirely part of the community and the society. Most importantly, the talk will also draw attention to the responsibility of those under this designation. They need to voice out their refusal to be called people of color.

About the origin of “people of color” Moses, Y (2016) reveals to us that “People of color” is a term primarily used in the United States and Canada to describe any person who is not white. This does not make sense because Asians have white skin. My point is why do people decide to name others knowing that they have already an identity and belong to a specific group? Moses is a teacher, and she shared one of the experiences she had after class.”  A student approached me after class and asked, “what should I call students who are of Asian descendant? She replies and said this: “The answer is in the question. Just call them Asian. Why would you like to call them otherwise?” In addition to what Moses said, I will say that Identity does not change or expire. I am African or a black woman and I will remain as such.

In support of this example, I was recently watching the news on CPTV, and the journalist referred to two new ladies appointed in President Biden’s future administration as people of color, but if she stops there, we will not be able to identify whom she was talking about, so she went further and refers to them as originally from Asia. So, what was the purpose of the expression of people of color?

People may not realize it, but the expression of people of color has a negative connotation. It reminds people of the painful past (colonial violence against native Americans and slavery). This impacts society and creates defensiveness, and frustration, and can lead to another struggle for their identity.

However, I cannot ignore the responsibilities of the said people of color because nobody can address a person by a name other than what he or she recognized and accepted. For that reason, the said people of color should express their refusal to be called so through actions such as conferences, writings, and even making it known by the congress. Some steps have been made by writers in the name of Chevaz Clark, Adams Joshua, and Yolanda Moses.

Most importantly, the said people of color should stop using the expression themselves. I participated in conferences where the said people of color used expressions such as “We people of color” in their speeches. The expression they do not like but they use it. If we use it, we cannot prevent others from doing otherwise.

In the end, nobody would like to be identified by an unknown name of categorization that does not specify who we are. From this perspective, the expression of people of color, being unable to recognize the identity of its components, is lapsed. Therefore, it is reasonable for people to realize the limitations of these words in terms of worthiness and dignity and stop calling others, people of color. It is, however, mostly the responsibility of those under this designation to not only refuse to be called people of color, but to be ready, watchful, and prompt to any other action that undermines their identity.

I refuse to be called people of color. I do not want to be addressed as people of color.  I am a black and African woman. This is how you should call and recognize me.

WE ALL DESERVE A HAPPY FAMILY

Creating a family is for a common person the desire for a man and a woman to get together and make children. The concept of a family has been reduced to a simple “living together”. This mentality has been surely derived from the modern way of living (too much work, the permanent pursuit of money to acquire a certain living standard). This preoccupation does not create a favorable environment for a family to live a reel family life. How can we fix it?

Once we decide to have children, we should have in mind that our daily lives will change. I remember when I was pregnant, my husband said: “It is weird. We used to be two persons in this house, very soon we will be three persons”.  The coming of a child should be prepared even if we did not expect it. The integration of the child is not only providing for his/her needs, sending him/her to the best school, and living in a beautiful house. Indeed, all these dispositions contribute to the child blooming, but we forget most of the time the most important one: Love. Love is fundamental in our children’s education. For those who believe in God. Our faith book revealed to us that God loved us so much the world that he sacrificed his only son to save us. Have we ever made or are we ready to make a sacrifice for our children?

If we love our children, they need to participate in family decision-making. Even if their opinion will not be regarded but asking their point of view makes them feel considered. Children, therefore, feel honored and from the first experience, they will start developing critical thinking. We should not hesitate to ask them regularly their point of view on any subject, it is amazing, and we will be surprised.

Here is my story about my amazing family’s life.

I was born into a family with nine children. I am the second born. Besides our reel names, my parents gave a nickname to each child, and this created a uniqueness for each child and familiarity. From five years old, my siblings and I started participating in the family’s decision-making. It was such a wonderful experience, and we were surprised that at our younger age, we could give our opinion on family matters. Once, young boys and young girls, we were able to suggest some solutions that were entirely considered. Our education was authoritative, and caring but at the same time rigorous.

My father had a routine to always bring us together. He said, “we are your parents, this does not mean we are perfect and this is applicable to all human beings” From that perspective, my father has established three days in a week for family meetings which last thirty minutes. At these meetings, we are asked individually to relate the mistakes or the deviations in family management. We should also reveal if we have some grief among us. We do all this with respect to elders and parents

My siblings and I were privileged to have wonderful parents. They thought my siblings and me at an early age a sense of responsibility and the two principal values they wanted us to bring along all our lives are respect and gratitude. We always make a difference in our community and my parents were not only proud of us but were assured that we had tools for our future life.

A number of families are struggling to live a real family life because parents may not have been raised in a harmonious family. Even if we have had a bad experience with our parents, we know from our hearts that we would like to be happy. This desire should stimulate motivation to challenge ourselves to give our best to our children. Also. Being a single parent cannot prevent us to be happy. If the single parent is the father, he should allow the mother if alive to play her role, and if not an aunt or someone dear to the family should do it for the benefit of his daughters which will enable them to have a reference. If the single parent is the mother, she should involve the father or an uncle for the benefit of her sons to create the balance.

Values of Humility

Humility is often seen in today’s world as passive, unassertive. Consequently, meekness and modesty are under appreciated but, it turns out, the secret of success and fulfilment lies in the ability to express humility. Humble people have strong relationship because they have a real interest in others and their contribution to society. In addition, they show a more charitable and generous nature towards other people.

The lack of self-absorption makes humble people courageous, ready for challenges, and very wise. When it comes to decision making, they have the habit of thinking their values and their choices involve certain respect for important moral values such as compassion and justice. Once the decision is made, they stand firm, no matter the outcome.

Humble people excel as leaders. Humility is seen as a softer strength; it defies arrogance and self-centeredness. “in a gentle way you can shake the world” said Mahatma Gandhi. Martin Luther King Junior gives us the profile of a good leader “A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a modeler of consensus.” Humble people have ability to shine in a professional setting because they give credit where it is due, are open to collaboration, and have learned the balance between being gentle and remaining strong.

For the above reasons, humility must be the main ingredient in human being’s behavior because the ability to possess modesty and genuine graciousness can significantly strengthen social bonds. Once again humility is not a lack of interest in oneself because people who honor humility don’t think less of themselves, they just think of themselves less to help the society move forward.
